Similar to the events Surfrider attends, the Music Outreach Program (MOP) is designed to take an active approach to involvement at venues and music events supportive of the Surfrider message. Chapter members keep an eye on the upcoming concert calendars, and when we see a potentially Surfrider-friendly artist is coming to town, we reach out to their manager, introduce ourselves, let them know about MOP, and ask if we can set up a table at the show.

We will usually advertise the show to the membership base, which helps us and the band with promotion of our respective causes.

We typically take 3-4 Surfrider volunteers to each show depending on the venue and show size.

Rob Machado's Melali - The Drifter Sessions, Slim's SF 4/12/11

Champion surfer, Rob Machado and his Melali band played a show at Slim's to promote his surf film - The Drifter. The show consisted of the film being shown along with a live performance of the score by the Melali band. Surfrider members Rachel Kippen, Brooke Tessman, and Adam Weiner were there to represent our Chapter. http://www.robmachado.com/thelatest.asp

Alma Desnuda

Surfrider MOP is currently partnering with Alma Desnuda on their national tour to raise funds and awareness for the Surfrider Foundation. They just played a show on 6/20 for ISD in New Orleans, where they handed out Surfrider informational materials and collected donations. They also organized a beach cleanup that same day. We will continue to work with Alma Desnuda as they make their way back to SF with the potential of organizing a benefit concert for the Surfrider Foundation. http://www.myspace.com/almadesnuda

Crown City Rockers

Hip-Hop, Jazz, Soul fusion band based out of Oakland, CA: Show on 8/5/11 at New Parish, Oakland. MOP will set up a table at the show. http://crowncityrockers.com/blog/
