A Win for Diversity In the Surfing Line Up In Pacifica!

The City of Pacifica is truly emerging as a leader in helping to create a surfing line-up that truly reflects all people enjoying their right to share in the joy California’s coast offers. On Wednesday August 26th, the Pacific Parks, Beach and Recreation Commission voted 7-0 to approve Phase 1 of the  Community Access Partnership Permit (CAPP) program, allowing Brown Girls Surf (BGS) and City Surf Project (CSP) to operate their programs at Pacifica Beach. Commissioners will learn and refine the CAPP program over the next six months.

The Surfrider Foundation San Mateo County Chapter, and Surfrider staff worked alongside BGS and CSP to create this CAPP program and bring it to fruition. We applaud the Pacifica PB&R Commissioners for their commitment and work on this issue, and thank and congratulate Mira Manickam-Shirley, Executive Director of Brown Girl Surf, and Johnny Irwin, Executive Director of City Surf Project, who have shown tremendous leadership on this issue.
