We provide opportunities to celebrate the ocean and encourage collaboration between local artists, Bay Area students, environmental non-profits, and government agencies to raise awareness about plastic pollution and inspire change.
In years past Message in a Bottle has sought artwork created by K-12 school students from around the Bay Area. Art illustrated the damaging effects of single use plastics on human health and the environment and inspired communities to take action and become part of the solution. Recently, the program has focused on community mending workshops to repair clothing and wetsuits. San Franciscans send 4,500 pounds of textiles to landfills every hour! That adds up to 39 million pounds of textiles added to the waste stream each year. Repairing your clothes supports a healthy circular economy and keeps textiles out of landfills.
