The Story Of Plastic

The San Francisco Surfrider Foundation hosted an online screening of The Story of Plastic and was very lucky to have Stiv Wilson and Miho Ligare speak on a panel discussion with local columnist Robyn Purchia following the screening.

Stiv is the Executive Producer of the film and co-leads the newly formed Peak Plastic Foundation and Miho is the new Plastic Pollution Policy Coordinator for Surfrider Foundation HQ.

Take the time and listen to the panel - eliminating single use plastic does so much more than keep our beaches and ocean clean. The production of plastic is harming people living in communities near petro-chemical plants. EPA rollbacks are increasing toxic pollution in areas like cancer alley in Louisiana and so many more. As Stiv says the burden of pollution is on the people living near these plants. They discuss the illusion of single use plastic being clean and safe and how reusables are a safer choice.

Thank you so much to Miho, Stiv and Robyn for the important work you do and for this panel discussion.

About the film: THE STORY OF PLASTIC takes a sweeping look at the man-made crisis of plastic pollution and the worldwide effect it has on the health of our planet and the people who inhabit it. Spanning three continents, the film illustrates the ongoing catastrophe: fields full of garbage, veritable mountains of trash, rivers and seas clogged with waste, and skies choked with the poisonous emissions from plastic production and processing.
