Action Alert: Restore Sloat & Save South Ocean Beach

South Ocean Beach is experiencing extreme erosion, especially at Sloat Despite multiple sand replenishments, South Ocean Beach continues to disappear from erosion. Even with a massive sand placement by the Army Corps of Engineers, the beach remains so narrow that it’s unsafe and impassible at high tide.

After decades of collaborative visioning for this area, the City has finally released long-term plans for the area. The City and County of San Francisco is proposing a 3,200 foot long seawall up to 40’ high to protect infrastructure in the south of Sloat area.

Surfrider Foundation San Francisco Chapter opposes this plan. We have long been a stakeholder working with our public agencies in creating a plan that would restore this section of Ocean Beach, but the final proposed solution represents a step backwards.

The City and County of San Francisco's plan is now in the Environmental Impact Report (EIR) phase and we need your help to tell the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission to revise their plan so that it more faithfully adheres to the vision of the Ocean Beach Master Plan.  At south of Sloat, that means protecting the wastewater infrastructure while restoring the beach and a sand dune backed shoreline.
